About Heath

Hailing from Melbourne, Heath grew up in Melbourne and Sydney as a child playing rugby league and Australian rules football.  As a teenager in Melbourne Heath picked up Rugby Union and from the time he took up rugby he represented Melbourne/Victoria at a junior and senior level, culminating in the winning of the Australian Rugby Shield in 2007.

In 2001 Heath travelled to the UK to play rugby for Huntingdon and also for Cambridge County for 2 seasons.  On Returning to Australia Heath continued to play rugby for Melbourne, however looking for a challenge took up marathon kayaking, seeing success twice in the 404km Red Cross Murray marathon, as class winner and 2 time record holder in 2005 and 2006.

In July 2007, Heath moved to Calgary to embark on a new adventure, more rugby.  Heath represented Calgary in the Canadian Super League, winning the western conference in 2008. Although heavily involved in Adventure Races, personal training and crossfit training, Heath soon needed more.  Looking for a new challenge, Heath found himself dreaming of the movie Cool Runnings, a dream he had many times growing up.  With the urge to get back into competitive sport, Heath found out what it took to be the best in the world and went down to the Canada Olympic Park Ice House in August 08, where he met Australia 1 pilot Christopher Spring.  And so the journey towards the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games had begun.
